Hi off roaders, . thats the winch fitted to my RV, I got it off the ebay site and it has saved me at least £200 Quid on this winch, I know this is a Chinese made supawinch, but for the few times it will be used the huge capacity of this winch will make recovery of this light 4x4 a piece of cake. The rewind speed seems to be much faster than expected too. Cheers. Photo of winch on jeep

Come on then lets have a weblink to where you got it from and some pics? I was advised to go plasma because of the weight, whats your opinion?

Hi Photo as req, I think most offroaders need a bit of weight, most times there is only a driver anyway so the vehicle is barely loaded, if the cable gets damaged, or a bit old there is no point in buying another steel rope, but not because of the weight, a plasma rope is stronger, should last longer, and takes up much less room on the drum, so the winch pull is kept to a maximum because the drum has less diameter to turn. The strongest pull is always closer to the drum. Plasma just feels much better to work with too. I will use the steel and take care of it but as soon as it is gubbed I will upgrade to plasma, You should change to an aluminium fairlead as well. for details on the winch go to www.winchsolutions.co.uk , they are doing a similar deal to the one I got on ebay.

Hi Taz
The winch goes straight to the battery terminals with V heavy cable, You fit a heavy duty isolator to the positive cable and only switch on when likely to need the winch. I am not going to do a double battery split charge job with this jeep, the alternator will do the job no problem. If I was preparing the jeep for an expedition or such I would have a lot more ancilliaries but this jeep is totally stripped down to keep it light not even a set of spots.
Off road I never turn off the motor it just feels wrong to do it when you are miles from the road, that is probably just paranoia on my part but with old cars I like to play it safe. So the battery should stay in full charge
By the way your avatar is genius.
I would say that my only hassle with the installation was that the mounting plate was a general purpose one and not specific to my jeep, this called for some fabrication and cutting and awkward placement of bolts access wise. I would advise getting the special bumper that fits your truck and using that.
Cheers.
