New here. Came in primarily because there seems to be a strong Dakar following. Building my Dakar at the moment. Will try and get some more inspiring pics. Been on hold for a few weeks with bits on order but those are progressing now. Will try and make it along to Detling. What route do most builders take with respect to how the vehicle is registered? Is anyone putting theirs through SVA? Steve

Have my SVA date (3rd Sept) so now need to put some insurance in place.
Can anyone advise their current favourite company who offer Dakar insurance?
Many thanks Steve

It failed. Not really surprised as the rules are quite tight and it is easy to miss something or misinterpret them.
Anyway, after a 6 hour test I have a whole list of bits to attack but nothing too difficult.
Main one to solve and a heads-up for others is that being so light on the rear the rear brakes lock first which is a no-no. The system does have a brake compensator but this is designed to cope with the heavy rear end. Will research the market and find an adjustable one which can then be locked.

Hi Steve,
You could use a brake bias proporting valve to adjust brake presser to the rear, witch is quick and easy to do. you can pick one up for around £35.00.

I now have a MAC. Passed SVA but the brakes were still a close call despite having fitted the adjustable valve and having it at max adjustment. After several attempts to get it to brake with the fronts locking first it finally did it the once so the guy said 'Pass'.
It now goes for MOT on Friday.
Then I have to get it registered but only see that as a long and painful paper chase rather than being a problem. Now that DVLA have given it a new chassis number and told me to SVA it there can't be much else. The only area left is for them to decide if it is 'Q' or age related but I should have enough points for age related.
Let me know if someone wants a write-up on the failure points because there are a number of features that fail if built in the normal Dakar way.
