I have long held the belief that Kit Cars know they are going to a show so to test your devotion they give you a few challenges to deal with on the week before.
My Weekend:
Make and fit speaker housings / side panels to finish off round the back seats - all looking good!
Spot nail in rear tire. - Yes it is possible to have a puncher in a Dakar. Pull out nail, 1 inch, 2 inches, 3 inches give in and drive to KwikFit! Great bunch. all sorted now but tire to big to fit on the ballancing machine.
Queue up for petrol
At least I got to go out with no roof or doors for the first time ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Check oil in Chrome Swivels, - there was non! Remove break disk covers, bottom swivel pin bolt no 1 snaps off Replace swivel pin bolt no 2 and it snaps Oil all over drive, leaking from chrome swivels - thats why there was no oil in them! Great!
Dakar going into Footloose 4x4 for new swivels tomorrow!
RE fit CB aerial and check swa. Give in and try magmount, works perfectly, therefore problem with cable, routed all through roll-cage! - Thanks! well it will have to wait. Shame magmounts dont stick to Fiberglass :-)
Anyway - after 5 hours with a bottle of G10 a electric car polisher and a tub or MUR my dakar is all gleaming on the drive. I even remembered to use RainX on the windscreen - god that stuff is amazing!
Dont panic Jason, you will still win the gleaming Dakar competition, I didnt get time to polish the tires!
