I have "acquired" (brother dumped it in my garage, emigrated to Australia and has now decided he is going to stay out there!) a TVR Tasmin (wedge) and I've decided to fix it up.
Apparently it has a Ford Pinto engine @ 2.0 ltr.
I think 105 (115?) of Dagenham's donkeys is plenty (for now ;D) in such a light car but I think a good upgrade will be to replace the 4-speed gearbox with a 5-speeder (Type 9 has been mentioned to me).
Does anyone know if any old T9 will fit my Pinto? There seems to be a different one for Pinto and the later (Cologne?) engines. Or is that just the bell housing?
Also, does my Taz have the 1" @ 23 spline input shaft (Type E) gearbox or is it going to be a Type 3 (7\8" @ 20 splines)?
Grazie

The 5 speed box behind a pinto is longer than the 4 speed so will need both the prop shaft shortening and the gearbox mounts moving back.
Still a worthwhile mod as the 2L will have plenty of power to pull 5th and would just run out of revs way too soon on the 4speed.

much agreed thats the reason y i put it in as 4th on the motorway costs "1 million dollors" and is not good on an ageing pintos cam, a prop to be custom made is £138 quid and the mount well u can modifi a standard one or u can get one off the shelf for the job, i just made one out of box steel

Thanks for the replies.. it sounds like the job could be a goer.
Does modifying the gearbox mount involve any welding (would have to bring it to someone) or just fabrication (could probably do something myself)?
I'll have to drag the beast out of it's lockup, to somewhere I can work on it... but once I have the motor running (carb full of goo..) the 'box will probably be the first job.
