Etch Primer.

Hope someone can help. I have done quite a bit of paintwork, but not much on fibreglass & I have never used etch primer before. Can someone shed some light on using it? Do I give it one coat or several? and do I flat it off before putting a primer filler over the top. I have a couple of "experts" giving me conflicting advice so before I take the next step I thought I'd seek some advice.
