This is my Cortina project, had a 2.8 carb engine in it when i bought it, that came out to make room for a 24 valve.
Mounted the front seats that came with it, and addeda pair of my own in the back.
These 24v Cossie engines are tough as old boots but they do suffer from timing chain tensioner problems if the servicing gets ignored and you cant hear theres a problem until its to late, you have to drop the sump to get the front cover off the engine, so while the lump is out the car it need to be done. Normally find these probs on 100000+ miles engines.
Heres my Cossie granny, was actually a very good car, but I couldnt be arsed to sell it on and look for a rougher one, plus it had already had a manual conversion with the proper MT75 gearbox which is lighter and stronger than the type 9.
Theres a fair bit of wiring to sort through to find the bits you need.
they aint small these things. lol
These bits were in the sump
This was in the oil pump pickup
And this is what the bits did to the pump
This is where all them bits came from, bare in mind this engine ran silent and healthy!
Once the new bits had been sourced, my engine was put back together.
New tensioner and blade
New front crankshaft seal
New oil pump
sump back on with new gaskets and seals
New cam cover gaskets fitted
New rear oil seal as well.
And the front end all put back on.
Engine in the car
Heater box needs a mod to clear the nearside cam cover (mmmm can you say "quad cam"?)
Alternator needs moving to clear the crossmember
